In terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Sweet Rice is known for its ability to strengthen qi and blood of the spleen and stomach. It also astringes the urine[22]. The flavor of rice is sweet, and it is considered to be neutral in temperature.

Sweet rice contains more proteins than other rice. It is easy to digest, particularly when made into "Mochi". However, use caution with phlegm and mucus because sweet rice may worsen these conditions. Sweet rice should also be avoided in cases of deficient digestive fire (watery stools, mucus in stools, and signs of coldness).

For obesity eat sweet rice cake (mochi) in small amounts to ease hunger, since mochi is very filling. For indigestion make a tea from malt syrup and sweet rice sprouts. For anemia or tuberculosis cook sweet rice porridge with red jujube and pearl barley for regular consumption. To prevent spontaneous sweating dry-roast sweet rice and wheat bran and grind into a meal. Take one tablespoon three 3x per day.[22]

Contraindications: Overconsumption of rice will cause indigestion.
